The Mutltiple award winning Mayoress of Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada, has commenced a comprehensive fumigation exercise targeting markets, public primary schools, public spaces, and the Ikosi-Isheri LCDA Council Secretariat, as part of deliberate efforts to promote a cleaner, healthier, and safer environment for residents.
The initiative, which was officially flagged off a few days ago, underscores the Mayoress’ unwavering commitment to public health, environmental sanitation, and disease prevention within the council area. The exercise is designed to eliminate disease-carrying pests and insects, reduce health risks, and improve overall environmental hygiene across the LCDA.
Speaking on the programme, the Oluomo of Kosofeland noted that the fumigation exercise forms a key component of her administration’s proactive approach to community health management. She stressed that safeguarding the health of residents, especially traders, schoolchildren, and users of public facilities, remains a top priority of her leadership.
According to her, markets and public schools were deliberately prioritised because of the high volume of human activities in such areas, which makes them more susceptible to the spread of infections if proper sanitation measures are not consistently enforced.
The operation is being carried out by the Ikosi-Isheri LCDA Environmental Health Department, whose officers were deployed to the various locations with professional fumigation equipment and approved chemicals to ensure effective and safe execution of the exercise.
Residents and stakeholders have commended the council leadership for the timely intervention, describing it as a commendable step towards preventing outbreaks of communicable diseases and sustaining a healthy living environment.
The Yeyeshewa of Ilara-Kingdom, however, appealed to residents to complement the council’s efforts by maintaining proper hygiene in their homes, business premises, and public surroundings, adding that collective responsibility is essential for lasting environmental cleanliness.
The fumigation exercise is expected to continue across strategic locations within Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to environmental sanitation and community well-being.
