It was undoubtedly an electrifying moment on Friday, December 26, as the Somolu Central Carnival (SOCECAN) All White Party held its highly anticipated annual gathering, drawing the crème de la crème of society from within Somolu and beyond Lagos State.
The colourful All White Party event, which has become a major end-of-year tradition in the community, witnessed an impressive gathering of political icons, community leaders, youth stakeholders, cultural enthusiasts and residents who gathered to celebrate unity, cultural heritage and communal progress.
Okesuna Street in the Somolu area of the state was agog with excitement as dignitaries from different walks of life arrived to identify with SOCECAN, a platform widely recognised for promoting peace, cultural preservation and social cohesion in Somolu. The gathering also provided an avenue for interaction between leaders and grassroots stakeholders in a relaxed and serene atmosphere.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Mr Sunday Orekoya, expressed gratitude to God for the year’s success and appreciated the members, supporters, and well-wishers for their unwavering commitment to the end-of-the-year party’s growth.
He noted that the annual end-of-the-year party was designed not only to celebrate the festive season but also to strengthen bonds among residents and reinforce the spirit of togetherness in the community.
Several political leaders and community elders who spoke at the occasion commended SOCECAN for sustaining a culture-driven initiative that continues to unite the people of Somolu irrespective of political, religious or ethnic differences. They described the end-of-the-year party and its associated activities as a positive force that has helped to project Somolu in a good light while engaging youths constructively.
However, one of the best DJs in Lagos metropolitan, DJ US, was on ground to entertain the guests with a fusion of Fuji, Afro-hip hop and other genres, thrilling them throughout the celebration. Not only that, attendees were treated to sumptuous delicacies in an atmosphere marked by joy and friendliness that lasted the test of time.
Aside from entertainment, small businesses in the food and drink sector around the area flourished with thousands of Naira flowing into their bank account alongside success stories from the annual event.
While the curtains fell on the 2025 edition of the SOCECAN annual end-of-the-year party, participants expressed optimism that the carnival would continue to grow bigger and better in the coming years, further cementing its place as a unifying platform and a symbol of pride for the Somolu community.
Some of the guests present at the event include the Executive Chairman of Somolu local government, Hon. Lateef Ashimi, the leader of the Legislative Arms, Hon. Tunde James Oyeyiola, Chief of Staff to the council Chairman, Hon. Sodiq Adeeso, Councillor representing Ijebutedo Ward C, Hon. Folarin Olubiyi, Councillor representing Ward E, Hon. Afeez Mabayomije (Gafara) and Hon. Sheriff Adekoya, not leaving out some other notable dignitaries.
