The Lagos State Government has issued a strong security alert to residents following disturbing reports of increasing kidnapping incidents along the Gbagada Expressway and its surrounding corridors. The warning, conveyed through an official communication referencing intelligence from the Lagos State Police Command, urges the public to exercise maximum caution to safeguard themselves from emerging threats.
According to the information made available, security agencies have observed a surge in kidnappers operating through the notorious “one chance” tactic, where unsuspecting commuters are lured into vehicles operated by criminal syndicates. The perpetrators reportedly make use of commercial “Danfo” buses carrying up to five individuals who disguise themselves as passengers to entrap victims.
Authorities describe the situation as alarming, noting that the criminals have recently intensified their operations, particularly during late hours. As a result, residents are being advised to remain highly vigilant, avoid unnecessary night movements, and consider alternative routes or transportation options whenever possible.
The State Government emphasised that personal safety should be a top priority at this time, urging commuters to be alert to their surroundings and avoid boarding suspicious vehicles. The notice also encouraged residents to share the security advisory widely among family members, friends, and colleagues, stressing that collective vigilance remains a key tool in combating the threat.
“Heightened awareness and proactive caution are crucial in ensuring the well-being of our communities,” the statement read. “We must all work together to prevent further incidents as security agencies continue to intensify efforts to bring the situation under control.”
The Government also reassured residents that the Lagos State Police Command and other security operatives are actively monitoring the situation and implementing measures to curb the activities of the kidnappers.
Residents are urged to promptly report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or emergency hotlines as part of ongoing efforts to ensure a safer Lagos.
