The Somolu Local Government, in partnership with the Lagos State Chapter of National Orientation Agency (NOA), on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, flagged off a comprehensive enlightenment and sensitisation programme aimed at instilling strong national values and ethical principles in students across public and private schools within the locality.
The initiative, themed “Values Re-Orientation/National Ethics in Public & Private Schools in Somolu LGA,” brought together school administrators, teachers, students, educational stakeholders, and NOA officials in a collective effort to shape the moral consciousness of young learners.
Speaking at the event, NOA State Director, Mr Tukur Mustapha Adedeji, emphasised that the programme was designed to address the growing decline in societal values and to reinforce positive behavioural standards among school-aged children. He noted that early intervention remains crucial to fostering responsible citizens who can make meaningful contributions to national development.
“What we’re here to do today was approved by federal government some few months ago and I must commend you for being the first to launch the initiative. Its a document on its own which embodies a kind of ‘Social Contract’ between the people and those in government. We have what we called National Identity project. This project is a vision by our DG, and the idea is to rebuild the trust about those who govern our affairs” He stated.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Somolu local government, Hon. Lateef Ashimi, reaffirmed their commitment to supporting initiatives that promote character building, civic responsibility, and ethical conduct among students. He described the programme as timely and essential, especially in a rapidly evolving society where young people are constantly exposed to conflicting influences.
According to the organisers, the sensitisation sessions will cover a range of topics, including patriotism, discipline, respect for national symbols, social responsibility, integrity, and the importance of upholding cultural values. The programme also aims to foster cooperation between schools and community structures in guiding students toward becoming morally upright leaders of tomorrow.
Teachers and participants applauded the collaborative effort, noting that such initiatives play a crucial role in shaping the minds of young people. They expressed optimism that the programme would have a far-reaching impact on attitudes and behaviour within the school system.
The Values Re-Orientation/National Ethics campaign is expected to be extended to various schools across the local government area in the coming weeks, ensuring that the message of moral and civic responsibility reaches a wide audience of students and educators.
Somolu Local Government and the NOA have reiterated their commitment to sustaining the partnership and continuing to champion programmes that promote ethical standards, patriotism, and national unity within the community.

Others are the Executive Secretary of LGEA, Hon. Dare Martins, Principal of Angus Memorial Secondary School; Mrs Monsurat Olaide Tijani, the Headmistress of Bashua Military Pry School; Mrs Johnson, and an official from the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC); Mrs. Akintujoye Victoria.
