The Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Lateef Ashimi, commended the Council Staff for their exemplary conduct and diligence during a familiarisation meeting with the State Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Comrade Sunday Sewanu, on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.
Upon his visit, Chairman Ashimi, alongside the Vice Chairman, Hon. Taiwo Hassan Ojomu, joined the staff to pay tribute to the late Personal Assistant to the Council Treasurer, Mr Ahmed Opaleye, who passed away a few days prior.
The Somolu NULGE Branch Chairman, Mr Bello Waheed Olamilekan, welcomed the State Chairman and further commended the transformative approach of the Hon. Ashimi-led administration. He then presented the branch’s crucial needs, which are intended to strengthen the work rate of all personnel.
Subsequently, Comrade Sewanu applauded the Council Leader for his remarkable achievements since assuming office, urging him towards more inclusive governance, continuous staff welfare, and the assent of their essential requests. He also charged the workers to be cognizant of their health status and to raise the bar high on punctuality, data tracking for revenue generation, and patriotism to the civil service. The Junior Staff were thereafter encouraged by him to be resourceful and hardworking.
In his address, Chairman Ashimi expressed his appreciation for Comrade Sewanu’s visit, hailing him as a dogged and capable NULGE figure. He assured the staff that he would always give them the due recognition they truly deserve, a commitment he affirmed he has never compromised.
Furthermore, he backed the staff’s disciplinary conduct over the past three months, advised timely health checks, and promised to reciprocate their dedication with the provision of their essential needs. This, he noted, would necessitate a cordial relationship between the executive and management structures towards fulfilling the Local Government’s objectives.
The Council Manager, Mr Abiodun Babington, also emphasised the medical aspects, urging the staff to maintain composure and to always vacate the premises for their homes as and when due, thereby avoiding unforeseen circumstances.
Alongside Chairman Ashimi and Comrade Sewanu, whose leadership impacts were acknowledged, the Head of Department (HOD) of Environment, Sanitarian Hafeez Olarenwaju Ogunbekun, was also pronounced a committed mentor and dedicated senior staff, bagging a Leadership Award for his productive services.
Meanwhile, the staff passed a vote of confidence in the NULGE State Chairman, declaring unanimous support for him to extend his tenure. Several beneficiaries, as identified, also benefited from their branch’s kind gesture.
The Human Resources Officer, Mr Muftau Oyefolu, drew the curtain on the familiarisation ceremony, rendering special thanks to all who ensured the discourse was successfully concluded.
