…commend the Organisers
In a heartwarming display of compassion and responsive leadership, the Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. AbdulHamed Salawu ‘Dullar’, has received widespread praise from residents for facilitating a 50 percent reduction in the prices of staple food items during the 2025 Easter celebration.
The initiative, held at the new local government complex in collaboration with Inspire Lagos Food Market, was strategically designed to cushion the effect of the persistent economic hardship ravaging the country. The subsidized market attracted hundreds of residents from various communities across Somolu, eager to benefit from the Easter food relief programme.
Addressing the crowd during the event, the council chairman who was represented by Secretary to the Local government; Hon. Dele Afolabi said the initiative was part of his administration’s effort to prioritize the welfare of residents, especially during festive seasons.
He recalled similar interventions during the recent Ramadan fast. “You will recall that we organised a similar event during the end of Ramadan fast for the Muslims’ Eid-el-Fitri celebration. Some Christians also benefited at the time, since they were fasting too. So, we felt it was only fair to extend the same gesture during the Easter celebration”.
He further emphasized the importance of community-based support in the face of the current economic realities. “We understand the difficulties many families are facing, especially during festive periods. This 50 percent subsidy is our way of making Easter more cheerful and less burdensome for our people,.”He explained.
The Easter food market featured essential food items such as rice, garri, vegetable oil, and other household staples, all sold at half their regular market prices. The process was carefully coordinated to ensure transparency, fairness, and wide coverage, with local officials deployed to manage distribution and maintain order.
Residents, visibly elated, did not hold back their appreciation. Mrs. Abiola Adebayo, a resident of Bajulaiye, described the initiative as a “huge relief.” She said, “Things are tough these days, and this gesture from our chairman means a lot to families like mine. May God bless him for remembering us.”
Similarly, Mr. Samuel Odumosu, another beneficiary, praised the organizers for their professionalism. “It wasn’t just about the food, it was about the respect and dignity with which it was done. The organisers deserve accolades for ensuring the process was smooth and everyone got something,”. He remarked.
Community stakeholders and traditional leaders also joined in commending the council boss for promoting inclusive governance and showing sensitivity to the people’s needs.
Reaffirming his commitment to people-oriented policies, Hon. Salawu stated, “We will not relent. My administration will continue to roll out impactful programmes that directly benefit our residents. Somolu comes first, always.”
The Easter subsidy initiative adds to a growing list of impactful community-focused interventions under Hon. Salawu’s administration, further solidifying his image as a responsive and people-driven leader.
