9th Constituency Stakeholders Meeting: Lagos House of Assembly Member, Orekoya empowers 120 constituents

Lagos, Nigeria – Over 120 indigents from the Somolu community on Friday 11th of October, 2024 received various tools and machines to improve their livelihoods, thanks to an empowerment programme initiated by Hon. Abiodun Orekoya, the Lagos House of Assembly member representing Somolu Constituency I.

In a recent development, Hon. Orekoya provided essential equipment and resources to support underprivileged residents. The initiative aims to enhance their economic self-sufficiency and reduce poverty within the constituency. The beneficiaries will receive a diverse range of tools and machines tailored to their specific trades, including Sewing Machines, Hairdressing Equipment, Big Umbrellas, Vulcanize Machines, and Pepper Grinding Machines, among others.

“This empowerment program is part of my commitment to uplift the residents of Somolu and ensure they have the necessary tools to become self-reliant. We are focusing on providing practical support that directly impacts their ability to generate income and improve their quality of life.” Stated Hon. Orekoya.

“I also want to make a passionate appeal to the residents, especially the youths to as a matter of necessity embrace a home-grown farming system that will bring about efficient and sustainable food security in the community”.

In his remarks, Hon. AbdulHamed Salawu, the Council Chairman of Somolu Local Government, commended the State Legislator for his significant contributions, highlighting that these efforts greatly enhance grassroots development, aligning with the Local Government’s initiatives.

Discussing food security, the Chairman mentioned his administration’s disbursement of over 100 million Naira to traders and the indigent to positively impact their lives. He also outlined his community projects, including the construction of over 60 roads, welfare packages, and healthcare improvements.

Additionally, he announced the upcoming disbursement of another 50 million Naira to further support the community while he urged the beneficiaries to make the most of the equipment provided by Hon. Abiodun Orekoya.

The Lagos State APC Party Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi also applauded Hon. Orekoya for his thoughtful initiative and dedication towards enhancing the lives of his constituents while he urged the residents to embrace a Home-grown farming system to ensure efficient food security in the community, state, and the nation at large.

The distribution event which took place at the New Somolu Local Government Secretariat brought together community leaders, stakeholders, and beneficiaries. Hon. Orekoya’s team has worked diligently to identify those in greatest need, ensuring the selection process is fair and transparent.

Residents have expressed their gratitude for the initiative, highlighting its potential to transform lives and foster community development. Mrs. Philomena Odunukan, one of the beneficiaries, shared her excitement: “This grinding machine will help me start my grinding business and provide for my family. I am grateful to Hon. Orekoya for this opportunity.”

This empowerment program is one of many initiatives by Hon. Orekoya aimed at improving the welfare of his constituents. Since taking office, he has been actively involved in various community development projects, including infrastructure improvements, educational support, Sports, and healthcare initiatives.

Hon. Orekoya’s efforts have not gone unnoticed, earning him accolades from both his constituents and fellow lawmakers. His commitment to service and community development continues to set a benchmark for public officeholders.

The empowerment event remains a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to uplift the Somolu community. By providing essential tools and resources, Hon.
