The landlords and residents of Olorunkemi Street in Bariga LCDA of the state have pleaded with the chairman of Bariga LCDA, Hon. Kolade Alabi David to hasten up the completion of the drainages and the road project.
According to the right sources, the road project was reported to have commenced in the third quarter of 2022 with a promise of completion by the end of 2023 has not only crippled many businesses but also has been causing untold hardship in the last few months owing to incessant flooding.
Speaking to one of the residents and shop owner who does not want her name in black and white in the affected area, described the situation as pathetic as many of the shop owners had to face serious flood challenges due to the cutoff bridges thereby leaving the residents at the mercy of flooding anytime it rains.
She went further, “I’ve not been having it easy anytime there’s rainfall, my shop is always flooded and I could barely do anything other than engaging in a serious flood out exercise or else my business will remain stagnant. How long will I continue to do this and how do I pay my rent and taxes when I cannot transact any business? It’s very disheartening”.
“We’re begging the chairman of Bariga LCDA, Hon. Alabi to please urge the contractor to speed up the completion of the road and drainage so that we can live with peace of mind”. she narrated.
In a similar situation, one of the landlords and vehicle owners in the area who also craved anonymity revealed that the situation was becoming unbearable owing to the slow pace of the work which has made bringing and parking their vehicles into their compound difficult coupled with flooding challenge.
“The major challenges we are facing are the cut-off bridges that have made bringing our vehicles into our compound and the flooding. Many of the residents who own cars have to park their vehicles on other streets which is still understandable but the issue of flooding is very pathetic.
“Although, they’re doing a good job. I wish to thank Hon. Alabi Kolade David for doing a yeoman’s job to ensure Olorunkemi is not only motorable and accessible but also open sustainable business opportunities for serious-minded entrepreneurs in and around the area”.
Meanwhile, Alabi during the stakeholders’ consultative forum held recently promised to ensure the project gets the needed attention as envisaged by the concerned residents of Olorunkemi and some other uncompleted projects while urging them to exercise usual cooperation and understanding with contractors already back on sites.
