The stage is set as the oldest institution in Nigeria, Yaba College of Technology, Lagos will be awarding Ordinary National Diploma (OND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) certificates to a total number of 7,717 students at its 35th Convocation ceremonies billed to commence from Friday, November 17th, 2023.
Briefing the newsmen on Thursday at a press conference held at the Academic Board room of the Zenith Bank Building where the Rector of the Institution. Engr. Dr. Abdul Adedotun Ibraheem said the convocation will commence with a lecture titled “Empowering Nigerian youth in the present day economy” which will be delivered by the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila (OFR, CFR) while the lecture will be chaired by the Senate President of Nigeria, Godswill Obot Akpabio (CON, FYCT).
Engr. Dr. Abdul in his speech said, “The convocation ceremonies will involve awards of certificates and Prizes to the graduating students of the 2012/2022 academic session. Conferment of the fellowship of the college on eminent and truly deserving Nigerians will also be part of the ceremonies”.
According to him, the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman will be the Distinguished Guest of Honour at the convocation on November 2023.
He added, “This year, the College is graduating a total of Seven thousand, Seven Hundred and Seventeen (7,717) students. Two Hundred and Fifty-four (254) of these students got Distinction. One Thousand, Eight Hundred and Ninety Three (1,893) students are graduating in the Upper Credit Division while Three Thousand, Nine Hundred and Forty (3,940) students are graduating in Lower Credit and One thousand, Six Hundred and Thirty (1,630) are in the Pass grade”,
“Furthermore, the College will be conferring fellowship awards on three (3) outstanding Nigerians at the 35th Convocation Ceremony which include the former First Lady of Lagos State; Lady Christine Doja Otedola, Comrade Hassan Adebayo Sunmonu and His Excellency, Engr. Dr. Umara Zulum (CON, mni) which is in line with the tradition and mandate of the Polytechnic education”. He stated.
