34th Convocation Ceremony: Yaba College of Technology set to graduate 7,554 students

The first tertiary institution in Nigeria, Yaba College of Technology is set to graduate 7,554 students at National Diploma and Higher National Diploma levels during its forthcoming 34th convocation ceremony.

The Rector of the institution, Engr. Obafemi Omokungbe in his speech made this announcement on Wednesday while addressing the Press and the activities lined up for the ceremony.

In his address, Omokungbe explained that the institution has over the years churned out excellent graduates in different fields who have continued to contribute to Nigeria’s economy. The Rector who listed all the achievements of the institution also appealed for funding from stakeholders in order to improve academic standards in the institution of learning.

He continued, “The College since inception has produced graduates who are in enviable positions in all walks of life both in the public and private sectors and have contributed immensely to the social economic, and political development of the nation.”

“From Engineering fields, through to science and Technology, the built environment through to fields of Management and recently, in the fields of Agriculture and Mass Communication. These graduates of Yaba College of Technology are making a significant impact in the march towards industrial and technological advancement of Nigeria.” He stated.

The Press conference marks the official announcement of the 34th convocation ceremonies scheduled for November 21st-24th, 2022. The convocation ceremony is for graduating classes of the 2018/2019, 2019/2020, and 2020/2021 academic sessions. The week-long convocation programme commenced on Friday, November 18th with the Jumat service at 1 pm and the Denominational Thanksgiving service on Sunday, November 20th at 4 pm.

The convocation lectures will come up later on November 21st with the topic “The emergence of a successful young entrepreneur in the current Nigeria Economy: the place of integrity” to be delivered by Mrs. Kafilat Araoye, the Managing Director and Chief Executive  Officer of Lotus Bank. The venue of the lecture is the Yusuf Grillo Auditorium.

The Distinguished Guest of Honour at the convocation ceremony is the Honourable Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu.

Other expected guests are the Chairman of the Council, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) and Members of the Council, the Executive Secretary, National Board for Technical Education, other officials of the Federal Ministry of Education, visiting Heads of Sister institutions, College Fellows and the Alumni Association.
