The residents and non-residents of Somolu local government area of the state have continued to pour encomium on the Lagos State House of Assembly member representing Somolu constituency 1, Hon. Olowo Rotimi Emmanuel as he hosted his annual Vocational Training Graduation/Empowerment Programme for the people of Somolu and Bariga respectively where over 200 constituents benefited from the multimillion naira programme.
The mega initiative, which took place on Thursday 12th May 2022 at the Baptist Academy playground, Obanikoro was targeted at promoting enterprise, self-reliance, and job creation as well as boosting economic yields of the people, hosting political, spiritual, and community leaders from Somolu Federal Constituency.
Hon. Olowo Rotimi while delivering his speech appreciated the two Council Chairmen, Hon. Kolade Alabi of Bariga and Hon. AbdulHamed Salawu for their continued supports while also appreciating all party members for their support.
He also commended the zeal and commitment demonstrated by the participants during their training programme and urged other youths to emulate such enterprising disposition in order to become self-reliant rather than waiting for white-collar jobs that are scarcely available. He stated that the scheme is based on the peculiar needs of the beneficiaries.
The 5th edition of Vocational training had 41 graduands in hairdressing, 19 graduands in Barbing, 38 graduands of cosmetics, and 52 graduands in Fashion designing (tailoring). In the same vein, minibusses (‘Korope’), refrigerators, and start-up soft drink businesses for widows were made available to empower various individuals in the community in order to actualize the need to be financially stable.
According to him “the vocational skills acquisition is free. The programme demanded dedication, commitment, and seriousness from the trainees, Once you graduated your start-off pack/types of equipment are available to commence the second phase of your life after the training”.
Olowo said he is committed to making an impact in the community. Human capital development is an integral part of society.
He seized the opportunity to declare his intentions publicly to represent the people of Somolu Federal Constituency in the forthcoming elections under the umbrella of All Progressives Congress. He concluded by appreciating everyone and assured them of making Somolu Federal Constituency accommodating to all through his legislative programmes.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Peter Oyewusi appreciates Hon. Olowo for seeing the need to empower the people of Somolu Federal Constituency. He said his philanthropic nature knows no bounds.
He advised the graduands to ensure they make use of the types of equipment given to them in order to better their state of living.
In a similar manner, the Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon AbdulHameed Salawu (Dullar), said, in this present atmosphere filled with political brouhaha as politicians and political parties jostle for victory tickets towards 2023 primary and general elections, well-meaning and progressive-minded politicians are still resolute, focused and committed to their constituents in areas of development, empowerment and capacity building.
He continued, this is not just a political event like every other one where people gather together for political reasons alone, this is an event to commend the commitment of our youths who were sponsored to learn various vocations by our own reliable and dependable Hon. Olowo Rotimi Emmanuel.
Youths from Somolu and Bariga who were well trained in tailoring, hairdressing, barbing, and cosmetology are to be certified and empowered with their professional tools today to get the best of what they’ve learned and start making a living for themselves and their family. He concluded.
The curtain of the event was drawn with presentations of the empowerment items. The graduands and the empowerment beneficiaries went home smiling with their types of equipment.
The programme was well attended by beneficiaries, family members, youth, religious bodies, and party members and leaders across the Constituency.
The leading aspirant for the House of Representatives, Somolu Federal Constituency under the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Hon. Rotimi Olowo has reiterated his commitment to representing the good people of Somolu LG Federal Constituency in the coming 2023 general elections.
The Chairman of Lagos State House Committee on Finance disclosed this while refuting the claims making the rounds that he has stepped down his intention to participate in the APC Primary Elections for the House of Representatives scheduled on the 22nd of this month, averring that it’s totally untrue!
Olumoko as fondly called by his teeming supporters re-emphasized that he’s not in the race for personal aggrandizement or selfish motive but for the general interest of the good people of Somolu Federal Constituency, adding that he has no reasons to jettison his desire for good government for any untoward deal.
While urging his teeming supporters to disregard and treat any pieces of information as nothing but fake news, he concluded that he’s very much in the race.
It would be recalled that Hon. Olowo Rotimi Emmanuel had on last week Thursday 5th of May, 2022 submitted his Expression of Interest and Party Nomination Form to the party Secretariat in Abuja.
