Orekoya Alliance Tournament: I’m impressed by the quality of football being exhibited by players in the tournament- LOC Member, Tola Orekoya

One of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) members of the Orekoya Alliance Tournament and Somolu Council Chairman Personal Assistant; Hon. Adetola Orekoya has revealed that he was impressed with the level of quality football skills being displayed by some players at the ongoing football showpiece put together by Hon. Biodun Orekoya to harness football talents in the Somolu/Bariga Community.

He disclosed this while speaking with Somolu Newspaper correspondent at prestigious Igbobi College football field on Saturday noting that the tournament is living up to its expectations as there has been a serious improvement from the previous games while lots of talents discovered which is seen as the joy of the organizer.

“There’s no doubt about the fact that the tournament is living up to its billing as more football talents have been discovered and the level of officiating is marvelous which means the best teams will emerge at the end of the tournament.”

“Although, some players didn’t have enough time to exhibit their God-given football talents owing to the way we structured the tournament being knockout game but for those who played up to the quarterfinals stage, enjoyed the best of time to do what is needed.”

“Let me also let you know that quite a number of talented players have been identified so far and the MFM coach is already making advancement for some of the players.” Tayo opined.

Meanwhile, in the quarterfinals matches played at Igbobi College football field on Saturday, Dec 4th and Sunday 5th, 2021, respectively, the Bariga Ward A team defeated Somolu Ward B (1-0) while the second game of the day between Somolu Ward C and Bariga Ward H ended (3-0) in favour of Bariga Ward H.

On Sunday, the battle for supremacy continued at the same venue where Bariga Ward E in its usual style humbled Bariga Ward B (3-0) strolling into the semifinal of the tournament with much excitement.

As if that was not enough, Bariga Ward F eliminated its counterpart from the same region Bariga Ward D with (1-0) to win the semifinal ticket making it Bariga’s all-time show.

The final of the tournament is scheduled to hold at the Yaba College of Technology Sports Complex, Yaba, Lagos on 18th December 2021 with top government officials, political elites, sports administrators, and football fans waiting eagerly to be part of the showpiece.
