The organizer and Publisher of Somolu Newspaper, Sheriff Owolabi Bada has reaffirmed the commitment towards hosting this year’s Table Tennis championship tagged “Hon. Dullar Unity Cup”.
The 2-day sporting event slated for 15th and 16th July 2021 at the indoor hall of Agunbiade sports pavilion will parade ping pong players in Somolu community slugging it with each other for supremacy.
The annual Table Tennis championship is essentially put together to further harness table tennis talents that abound in the community which is yielding the needed result and as well accorded Somolu more pride and honour in recent times thereby fulfilling the campaign promises of Hon. AbdulHamed Salawu ‘Dullar’.
According to the Bada who pointed out that Somolu at the moment remains the home of table tennis not only in Lagos but Nigeria in its entirety noting that Somolu has the highest numbers of players who wear green, white green shirts representing their fatherland anytime the need arises both at the continental and global level.
He adds, “Aside from the fact we are bent on discovering table tennis talents to replace the aging ones, we also want to use this sporting event to mend the fence among the Somolu All Progressive Congress which we see as a unifying vehicle capable of healing wounds.” he noted.
“Somolu unity is sacrosanct to us as a community and we’ll stop at nothing to ensure things are in order which is one of the reasons we’re putting this together”.
Top sports administrators, politicians, top government functionaries, and businessmen and women alike will be in attendance to add glamour to the sporting event.
