It was a sight to behold on Saturday 10th July 2021 as women and the youths in Bariga trooped out in their large numbers to support Bariga LCDA chairman, Hon. David Kolade Alabi who also doubles as the President of All Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON).
The one day walk for the health programme which took off at Eva Adelaja Roundabout at 9 am as scheduled had many of the participants in a yellow cap and specially made ‘Ankara’ stuff bearing various sizes of colourful banners with different inscriptions ranging from ‘Alabi leekansi’, One good term deserves another’ among others.
Speaking to Somolu Newspaper shortly after the programme, the former Supervisory Councillor for Works Bariga LCDA, Hon. Otunba Adegboyega Adefuwa revealed that the essence of the walk for health is to showcase Hon. Kolade Alabi to his people for his second term bid.
“Showcasing the man of the people, the man with a leadership trait is not a wrong notion as he has performed wonderfully well. This is to let them know that Hon. Kolade Alabi very much with them.” he stressed.
The LGA chairman, Hon. Akin Majolagbe in his remarks lauded the initiative and described it as a welcome development as it goes a long way in presenting the man of the people, Barrister Kolade Alabi to his constituents all in a bid to further gain their trust.
“The whole idea by the Bariga Women wing of All Progressive Congress and the youth is to showcase what Hon. Kolade has done in his first term and as well persuade them to vote for him for a second term for him to continue the good governance that brought about good road network, youth and women empowerment, provision of good education and some other basic amenities”.
In the same vein, the Education Secretary, Somolu Local government Education Authority, Hon. Onakoya Dare Martins without mincing words, hinted that the exercise is not just about politics but about our wellbeing.
“The essence of this programme is to encourage living a healthy life starting from exercising our body regularly, which is the reason the programme is being put together so that our people can come out of their shell and walk out for life. It’s not just a political campaign but maintaining and sustaining a healthy lifestyle but then, we cannot rule out showcasing our Bariga LCDA chairmanship candidate, Hon. Kolade Alabi”.
“Although, he’s a known candidate but we still want everyone to know him. This is the man that has been transforming Bariga LCDA in healthcare delivery, education, infrastructure not leaving out the so-called ‘stomach infrastructure’ and so many other areas in the community and that’s the reason why Bariga constituents want him back for the second term”.
In his speech, Hon. Kolade David Alabi poured encomium on his constituents for their time and sense of responsibility to ensure the right measures are taken to pave way for victory at the poll while reiterating his commitment towards bringing food governance to the people in continuation of his legacy.
“I want to thank you for giving peace back home and we all know that when there’s no peace, there’s nothing like transformation. At times, people will approach me for a financial assistant to pay their child’s school fees, and when they mention the amount, I’m always disturbed. When they mention the schools, like Grace, St’ Anthonio, Corona and Ladybird charging like N259k, N300 and N500k and I keep asking myself that can’t we remodel our schools in Bariga to meet the standard of all these schools mentioned earlier?”
“Let me remind you that we have 30 primary schools in Bariga LCDA and that’s exactly what we’re doing at Igehin-Adun and Adaranijo primary schools and by the grace of God, all the schools will be upgraded to such standard.” he stated.
He continued, ” The ongoing projects may be at a slow pace but I can assure you that those projects will be commissioned by my 100 days in office and all the classrooms will be equipped with air-conditioning”.
“The schools will also have well-equipped creche with state of art toys and other educational materials and with all these in place, we don’t need to go to Ikoyi, Victoria Island and Ikeja to enjoy good education like those in those mentioned areas”.
“That’s why I coined ‘My Bariga, My Pride’. Many of you don’t understand the meaning but by the time we complete all the projects as promised, you’ll all understand better”. he concluded.
Present at the event includes Chairman Bariga Local Council, Hon. David Kolade Alabi, Vice Chairman Bariga Local Council, Hon. Adeola Zainot Kuponiyi, Educational Secretary, Somolu LG, Hon. Dare Martins; DG KACCO, Barr. Doyin Banjo, Hon. William Lawanson; SLG Bariga Local Council, Hon. Bukola Adedeji and other distinguished dignitaries.
