LASG warns against sales of land earmarked for developmental projects

The Lagos State Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai has warned land speculators in Lagos State against the selling of land marked for developmental projects.

Speaking during an inspection visit to the site earmarked for the construction of 608 units of two bedrooms apartments for Workers in the State, Akinderu – Fatai said the government will commence the removal of all encroachments and contraventions from the site as soon as possible.

He stated that the 8.3 Hectares of the parcel of land beside Gold Estate lying along Ayobo – Ishefu Road in Alimosho Local Government Area, Lagos State belongs to Lagos State Ministry of Housing, Alausa – Ikeja and has been set aside for the construction of a Workers Village.

Akinderu Fatai then revealed that some land speculators with the active support of some local traditional rulers are selling government land marked for developmental projects.
He seized the opportunity to alert members of the public against such unscrupulous individuals, families, and communities who engage in the widespread indiscriminate and illegal sale of government land, saying” it will amount to eventual loss on the part of the buyers”.

In his words, “Why should anyone risk building on Government land without valid titles such as the certificate of occupancy and building plan approval, when such structure would eventually be removed“.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Housing, Mr. Wasiu Akewusola who was also present stated that all structures and buildings constructed on government lands by persons, companies, or institutions without valid documents from the State government thereto will be removed through the appropriate Government Agencies.

Akewusola urged the general public to take a formal approach to verify the status of any landed property before consummating any transaction. They should endevour to always obtain a Land Information Certificate from the Office of Surveyor-General, Alausa – Ikeja.
