The coach of Raptors Basketball club, coach Charles Ibeziakhor has described the leadership brouhaha between Tijani Ahmed and Engr. Musa Kida that turned the basketball governing body in the country, Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) upsidedown as a bitter pill.
Speaking to herosports.com.ng on the issue, he revealed that the leadership tussle is really having a devastating effect on the league as the stakeholders now pitched their tents with factions of their choice.
The coach noted that no meaningful progress has been made since the problem started a few years ago which has caused a lot of distractions to all the stakeholders especially the sponsors.
“Imagine the states, the coaches, the referees and the players having divided opinion and interest thereby making Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) less effective and attractive. Two different leagues under one national federation, confusion everywhere”. he lamented
“It’s now a case of proverbial saying that where two elephants fight, the grass will suffer. The basketball developmental process no doubt has been distorted and when such happened, no progress will be made”.
He stressed further “Musa Kida is the FIBA recognized NBBF President but the former President, Tijani Umar is not given up as he still goes around claiming the President of the federation”.
“Come to think of the untold hardship this has brought into the league and on the stakeholders which have thrown the league into total disrepute both at the continent and the world at large”.
“It’s also sacrosanct to point out that no right-thinking sponsor(s) will want to invest in such chaotic and worm-infested federation unless the leadership problem is solved”.
The Raptors Coach, however, pleaded with the warring faction to buried their hatchet, let peace reign so as for the needed goals to be achieved and allow the federation and the league maintain and sustain the right status at the right time.
