The commendation came during an official oversight and inspection visit by the committee, led by its Chairman, Hon. Sanni Ganiyu Okanlawon, as part of the Assembly’s constitutional responsibility to assess governance, project implementation and service delivery at the local government level.
During the visit, members of the committee inspected several ongoing and completed projects executed by the Ashimi-led administration and expressed satisfaction with the quality of work and the pace of development, despite the administration being less than one year in office.
The lawmakers noted that the council’s commitment to infrastructural renewal, improved public services and community development reflects a deliberate effort to enhance the welfare of residents and promote grassroots development.
Receiving the delegation, the Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Lateef Ashimi, appreciated the committee for the oversight visit and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability and the delivery of impactful projects that address the needs of the people.
Ashimi explained that the achievements recorded so far were made possible through prudent management of public resources, effective teamwork and the support of the people of Somolu. He assured the committee that his administration would continue to initiate programmes and projects aimed at improving infrastructure, education, healthcare, environmental sanitation and economic empowerment.
The visit also provided an opportunity for the lawmakers to interact with key officials of the council, review the administration’s performance and assess ongoing developmental initiatives.
The committee urged the council to sustain the momentum by maintaining high standards in project execution and ensuring that residents continue to benefit from policies and programmes designed to improve their quality of life.
The inspection visit ended with members of the committee expressing confidence in the direction of the Ashimi-led administration, describing its achievements within its first year in office as commendable and worthy of emulation by other local government councils in Lagos State.
