In addition, the House commended key economic and social reforms introduced by the administration. These include the establishment of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), the removal of fuel subsidy, and ongoing efforts at tax harmonisation.
According to the lawmakers, these measures have contributed to improved revenue generation, with figures rising significantly from previous levels, as well as enhanced transparency in foreign exchange management, which they noted has strengthened economic confidence. They also pointed to initiatives aimed at reducing dependence on imports and promoting local production, as well as the creation of alternative funding mechanisms to support critical sectors.
Speaking in support of the motion, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, stressed the importance of continuity in leadership to ensure the completion of ongoing initiatives. He also acknowledged the role of the media in projecting national progress and fostering public awareness of government efforts.
The Speaker further commended the President’s role in improving Nigeria’s standing in the international community and called for unity among stakeholders in support of his reelection bid. He subsequently directed the Clerk of the House to transmit a formal letter conveying the Assembly’s position to the Governor of Lagos State, political parties, the President, and the National Assembly.
