Somolu LG Chairman, Ashimi, hails Gov. Sanwo-Olu over re-introduction of monthly environmental sanitation; vows compliance

…puts CDC/CDAs, residents on alert ahead of April 25 implementation

The Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Lateef Ashimi, has hailed the proactive Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, over the reintroduction of monthly environmental sanitation across the 57 LGAs/LCDAs.

Gov. Sanwo-Olu made the announcement yesterday alongside the Lagos State Ministry of Environment, flagging off the return of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise. It is expected to resume on Saturday, April 25, 2026, and will be held on the last Saturday of every month from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.

The Governor encouraged every Lagosian to take those hours seriously. “Step out. Clean your surroundings. Clear the drains in front of your homes and dispose of waste the right way,” he stated.

“The Lagos we all want will not appear overnight. It will come from the small actions we take together, street by street, from LGA to LGA. Our commitment is clear. We will support this effort and ensure it is taken seriously. Together, we can keep Lagos cleaner, healthier, and better for everyone who calls it home,” he added.

In response, Chairman Ashimi has vowed to ensure Somolu Local Government swings into action in compliance, stating clearly that a cleaner environment is everyone’s task and all hands must be on deck.

The Chairman also assured full implementation in his domain, putting the concerned Supervisory Councillor, Environmental Department, Community Development Council (CDC), and CDAs, as well as other notable stakeholders and residents, on alert to make the efforts feasible and successful in the locality.
