The Ogun and Lagos State Governments have confirmed that British-Nigerian two-time unified world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, was involved in a road traffic accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway earlier on Monday.
According to an official statement jointly issued by both state governments, the vehicle conveying Anthony Joshua and three other members of his team collided with a stationary truck along the busy expressway. The unfortunate incident resulted in the death of two persons, throwing families and well-wishers into mourning.
The governments expressed deep sympathy to the families of the deceased, describing the incident as tragic and painful. They also prayed that God would grant the bereaved families the strength and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
Following the accident, Anthony Joshua and one other passenger were promptly evacuated to a specialised medical facility in Lagos, where they received immediate attention. Medical experts who carried out several clinical assessments confirmed that both patients are in stable condition and do not require any emergency medical intervention at this time.
A comprehensive medical team has since been constituted to closely monitor their health, while further evaluations continue as a precautionary measure. It was also confirmed that Anthony Joshua is responding well to treatment and has since been in contact with his family.
