The Chief Executive Officer of EqualRight Restaurant and Bar, renowned for serving some of the finest meals in the Lagos metropolis, Hon. Mrs Mariam Omotanwa Salau, has extended heartfelt sympathy to Fuji music icon, Alhaji Abass Akande Obesere (Omorapala), following a recent robbery attack that left him traumatised and stripped of valuable belongings.
In a statement released to Somolu Newspaper on Wednesday, Hon. Mrs Salau condemned the incident in strong terms, describing the attack as “unfortunate, disheartening, and a disturbing reminder of the security challenges confronting innocent citizens.”
She noted that ‘Obesere Omorapala’, widely celebrated for his calm disposition and immense contributions to the entertainment industry and Nigeria at large, did not deserve such a distressing encounter.
“This incident is painful, not only because a respected figure was targeted, but because it reinforces the urgent need to strengthen safety measures for all residents,” she said.
“On behalf of the entire EqualRight Restaurant and Bar family, I extend heartfelt sympathies to Alhaji Abass Omorapala and pray for his swift emotional recovery.”
Hon. Mrs Salau used the opportunity to call on security operatives to intensify efforts in combating robbery and other criminal activities across Lagos and neighbouring areas. She emphasised that ensuring the safety of residents must remain a top priority, particularly as the festive season approaches—a period often associated with a spike in criminal activity.
According to newspaper reports, it was revealed that ‘Egungun Becareful’ crooner was ambushed on Friday after performing at a burial ceremony in Okitipupa Local Government of Ondo state by suspected robbers while returning home. He was said to have been assaulted, while the attackers also made away with cash, mobile phones, and other valuables.
The news of the attack has sparked widespread concern, as his fans have expressed solidarity with the Fuji legend. At the same time, security authorities have taken immediate action, resulting in the arrest of the culprits involved in the sad incident.
Reaffirming her commitment to community welfare, Hon. Mrs Mariam Salau assured that EqualRight Restaurant will continue to support victims of unfortunate incidents and contribute to fostering a safer environment. She praised the resilience of Obesere Omorapala and encouraged him to remain strong, noting that the community stands firmly behind him.
Meanwhile, residents have renewed calls for improved security architecture, including better street lighting, increased patrols, and strengthened community policing strategies to prevent future occurrences.
