Lagos Council Chairman spreads love across Somolu with ‘Renewed Hope Food Palliative’

The Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Lateef Ashimi, on Friday 24th of October, 2025 has once again demonstrated his commitment to the welfare of his constituents by distributing over 2,000 “Renewed Hope Food Palliatives” to residents across Somolu for the second time.

The initiative, tagged “Renewed Hope Food Palliative,” forms part of ongoing efforts by the council to cushion the effects of the current economic hardship being experienced by Nigerians. The gesture aligns with both federal and state government directives aimed at providing relief to vulnerable households.

Speaking during the distribution exercise, Hon. Ashimi emphasized that the programme was designed to reach the grassroots and support families struggling with the rising cost of living. He reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to prioritize the welfare of all residents, irrespective of political, religious, or ethnic affiliation.

“We understand the challenges our people are facing due to the economic situation of the country. This initiative is part of our continuous effort to ensure that no one in Somolu goes to bed hungry”.
Ashimi said.

He noted that the food palliatives—consisting of essential items such as rice, beans, garri, and other staples-were carefully distributed to ensure fairness and transparency.

Several beneficiaries who spoke with Somolu News Online expressed appreciation to the council chairman for his consistent show of empathy and leadership.

“This food package came at the right time. We are grateful to Hon. Ashimi for remembering the common people”. Said Mrs. Modupe Adebayo, a widow and mother of three.

Community leaders also lauded the initiative, describing it as a reflection of the “Renewed Hope” agenda championed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and supported by Hon. Lateef Ashimi.

Hon. Ashimi pledged that similar interventions would continue in the coming months, noting that the council was exploring sustainable empowerment programmes to complement food support efforts.

“We are not just providing temporary relief. We are working on long-term solutions that will empower our youths, support traders, and create opportunities for our people”. He added.

The Renewed Hope Food Palliative distribution marks another milestone in Hon. Lateef Ashimi’s administration’s ongoing community development and welfare initiatives aimed at fostering unity, compassion, and social stability across Somolu.
