A prominent stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Apex Leader in Ward F, Bajulaiye/Fola-Agoro, Hon. Ademola Olisa Adefalujo, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Hon. Basirat Kemi Mayabikan, the late Councillor representing Ward F in Somolu Local Government Area of Lagos State.
Hon. Mayabikan died on Sunday, September 21, 2025, after a prolonged illness. Her untimely demise has left a vacuum in the political landscape of Somolu, where she was widely regarded as a committed, vibrant, and loyal public servant.
In an emotional tribute, Hon. Olisa described the deceased as not only a political colleague but also his “political daughter,” highlighting her integrity, dedication, and passion for grassroots governance.
“Hon. Basirat Kemi Mayabikan was not only a councillor but also my political daughter who was diligent, loyal and full of life,” said Hon. Olisa. “By the grace of God, I serve as the Apex leader in Ward F, Bajulaiye/Fola-Agoro, and I can say without a doubt that her time in office was impactful, however brief.”
He continued by noting that Hon. Mayabikan’s passing is not just a loss to her immediate family, but also to the APC in Ward F, the broader Somolu Local Government, and Lagos State as a whole.
“It’s a painful loss for all of us. I have received glowing reports about her service in the ward. She carried out her responsibilities with commitment and sincerity. It is my prayer that God grants her eternal rest and gives the family the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” Hon. Olisa stated.
In honour of her memory, a condolence register has been opened, allowing colleagues, party members, and constituents to pay tribute and reflect on her legacy.
Meanwhile, Hon. Olisa used the opportunity to call on the government to consider the inclusion of health status as a requirement for electoral candidates, alongside academic qualifications.
“While we emphasize education, we must also ensure that those who offer themselves for public service are medically fit to handle the rigours of office. It’s time we include health screening as part of the requirements for political office,” he urged.
The late Hon. Basirat Kemi Mayabikan is remembered as a beacon of service and a shining example of grassroots leadership. Her contributions to the development of Ward F and her unwavering loyalty to the party continue to inspire many within and outside the local government.
