The ancient town of Odokalaba near Ijebu-Ode under Ijebu-North East Local Government Area of Ogun State was transformed into a lively hub of activities on Saturday 26th of April, 2025 as families, friends, and well-wishers gathered in their numbers to honour the glorious exit of Pa. Samson Oludayo Dairo, who answered the call to glory on January 22, 2025, at the ripe age of 80.
The final burial rites, held amidst pomp and ceremony, reflected the impactful life Pa. Dairo lived. The atmosphere was a blend of celebration and nostalgia as guests from different parts of the country trooped into Odokalaba to pay their last respects to a man fondly remembered for his kindness, wisdom, and contributions to community development.
A commendation service held at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Odokalaba, was officiated by the Venerable Emmanuel Adekoya, who described the late Pa. Dairo as a “beacon of integrity, a loving father, and a steadfast pillar in the Christian faith.”
In his sermon, Ven. Adekoya urged the congregation to emulate the virtues of the deceased, highlighting his dedication to service, humility, and unwavering commitment to family and society. “Though we mourn his departure, we rejoice in the knowledge that he lived a fulfilled life worthy of emulation,” he said.
Addressing Somolu Newspaper, the eldest son of the deceased, Pastor Francis Dairo described his late father as wonderful and caring personality whose discipline shaped his children positively, which he said would forever be cherished.
In the same vein, Adewale Adetimirin, the first cousin of the late Pa Dairo and Senior Officer at Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in his remarks eulogized the late Octogenarian for his immense contributions not only to his immediate family but across the extended family home and abroad.
Following the service, the remains of Pa. Dairo were laid to rest in his family compound amidst emotional tribute in line with the customs of the land. The celebration continued with a lavish reception held at the town’s Open playground, where dignitaries, traditional rulers, and community leaders praised the late octogenarian’s remarkable legacy.
Highlife music and a colorful parade of traditional age groups added glamour to the occasion, turning the solemn event into a festival of life, befitting for a man whose life touched many.
Meanwhile, Pa. Oludare Dairo is survived by sisters, brothers, children, and grandchildren.
