A group, the Aid For Drug Addiction Youth Initiative (AFDAYI) on Saturday 10th August 2024 successfully launched its campaign with a thought-provoking event themed “Preventing Illicit Drug and Addiction Amongst the Youth of in Community marking a significant milestone in the fight against Illicit Drug Use and Addiction amongst the youth in our community.
The event featured a lineup of distinguished keynote speakers who delivered impactful presentations on various aspects of the theme. Ambassador Chris Ibe, Executive Director of AYICRIP, set the tone with a compelling speech on “Sports as a Credible Alternative to Illicit Drugs and Substance Use Disorder”. He highlighted the psychological benefits of sports and its potential to deter youth from substance abuse.

Mrs. Maria Ilugbuhi, CEO of Shelter and Community Network, followed suit with a comprehensive discussion on preventive measures against illicit drug and substance use with her insights providing valuable guidance for the audience on strategies to avoid drug abuse.
Representatives from the NDLEA Ikorodu Area Command emphasized the importance of law enforcement in combating drug abuse. They urged the youth to reject drugs entirely, stressing the severe consequences of drug use.
Oba Engr Basiru Aremu Sotonwa Osomeku 1, Sekumade of Ipakodo, the royal father of the event, offered wise counsel, advising the youth to shun hard drugs and substances that can cause irreparable harm to their health.
Finally, Commander Johnson Kayode, CEO of AFDAYI, shared the vision of the organization and its commitment to supporting drug-addicted youth in their recovery journey.
