Excitement in Somolu as Orekoya Alliance Tournament Kicks-off

Sixteen grassroots teams are set to spark excitement in the Somolu/Bariga area of the state as the much anticipated 2nd edition of the Orekoya Alliance Tournament kicked off on Saturday 25th November, 2023.

The Orekoya Alliance Tournament, generously sponsored by the Lagos State House of Assembly member and Chairman House Committee on Sports and Social Development, Hon. Biodun Orekoya in conjunction with his counterpart from Bariga LCDA, Hon. Samuel Olufemi Apata, is ready to showcase the best of grassroots football. This grand event will unfold at Gbagada Girls Junior Secondary School field, Bariga, offering a festive spectacle that promises to delight countless fans.

The opening match on Saturday between Ward E Bariga versus Ward A and Ward H versus Ward D Bariga kicks off respectively at the Gbagada Girls Junior Secondary School, Bariga field, Lagos at 10 am.

Speaking to one of the LOC members committee and an astute grassroots Sports administrator per excellence, Tunde Sulaimon spoke ahead of the kickoff.

“On behalf of the Orekoya Alliance Tournament, I want to express our thanks to the sponsor for this great vision to harness the football talents that abound in the two communities.

“Preparations are in top gear, as we’re set for the Orekoya Alliance Tournament to kick off amid funfair. The 16 clubs are ready to wrestle one another for supremacy as always anticipated by the coaches, players, and even their fans.

“All logistics are in place as the center for the football showdown is well secured and safe for football fans, as the tournament will showcase the best of Nigeria’s grassroots football to the world.

“The Orekoya Alliance Football Tourney will ignite the passion and the abundant skills of our players. The 16 teams have been grouped into different wards, with each having Ward A to Ward G of four teams each.

“After the group phases, the winners in Group 1A will take on that of Group 1B in the semi-finals.

The Orekoya Alliance Tournament will run from Friday 25th November to 23rd December 2023 while the overall winner in Group 1A will tackle the winner from Group 1B in the final on 23rd December at the prestigious Yabatech Sports Complex, Yaba, Lagos.
