The long-anticipated Snooker Competition, as convened by Comrade Malik Olawale of Somolu Progressive Youth, has officially commenced for 2022 participants.
According to the host, Comrade Olawale, who was inspired by his zeal to revive the beauty of sports in Somolu, he bestowed gratifying honour to all, then further disclosed the rules of the game to the public.
The Chief Host, Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu (Executive Chairman of Somolu LG), ably represented by Hon. Ayo Coker (Supervisor for Agric & Social Services), revealed his intent for more youthful engagement, to unlock hidden talents with consistent sports activities within, while also aiming to upgrade the table-tennis court, to avail gifted athletes’ desirable avenue to showcase their prowess for self and career growth.
Following the pronouncement of the Chief Host to get the snooker competition underway with 54 participants, the duo of Coach Owolabi Ibrahim & Saheed Adekoya, brought to light, the entire draw for the contest, while the dignitaries present unveiled contestants to feature in the first rounds.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress, APC, House of Assembly Candidate for Somolu Constituency 1, Hon. Abiodun Orekoya, as represented by Hon. Bowale Sosimi (Commissioner 1, Lagos State Local Government Service Commission), implored the youths to always foster unity and channel their energy towards greater development of this nature. He also vowed to personally support the essential programme till the closing ceremony.
In tandem with Comrade Olalekan Fasasi’s (NYCN Coordinator, Somolu Local Branch) brief highlights on Somolu-born World-Class Sports Champions, viz, Omotayo Olajide & Funke Oshonaike (Table-Tennis Veterans), Riliwan Owolabi Lawal (African Continental Featherweight Medalist) and other Pro-athletes, the Chief Whip of the Somolu Legislative Arms, Hon. Abdul-Lateef Ashimi, lauded the organizers and thorough focus for all participants, apprising them to emulate their predecessors in steering the lead in every possible tournament.
