Over 2000 youths storm inaugural Somolu Youth Assembly

… Hon. Orekoya pledges to be available at every edition of the program

It was yet another milestone achievement on Thursday 15th September 2022 as a mammoth crowd of vibrant youths stormed Agunbiade Table tennis hall, Somolu, Lagos for the unveiling of the maiden edition of Somolu Youth Assembly put together by the Orekoya Youths Vanguard.

According to the convener of the Abiodun Orekoya Youth Vanguard, Com. Are AbdulFatai Ajibola who also doubled as the Vice-Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Lagos East chapter said the move become necessary and was necessitated by the need to close the wide gap between the youth, especially the political elites and other stakeholders in the community noting that such a move will further foster a cordial relationship that’ll give the youth the sense of belonging in order to make meaningful impact as expected when and where necessary.

The program provides an avenue for youths to parley with APC candidate for Lagos State House of Assembly, Somolu Constituency I: Hon. (Engr) Abiodun Abimbola Orekoya which is seen as an interactive session with the Candidate of the All Progressives Congress and the Youths of his Constituency laid bare the challenges faced by the youths, especially in the face of biting global economic challenges.

He went further, “Since we’ve identified Hon. Abiodun Orekoya as our candidate come 2023 election, there’s need to address the youth on what he has in store so that the Somolu youth can come out en mass to partake in the process of electioneering to take charge of our future”.

“And looking at his antecedents, we’ve seen that he’s the kind of personality that can provide mentorship and with his capacity, empower the youth and that’s the more reason we’re working for him to ensure he emerges as the winner of the Lagos House of Assembly, Somolu constituency 1 come 2023 election”.

In the same vein, the former Chairman of the National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS), Joint Campus Committee, Lagos Axis, Com. Olusanya AbdulQuwiyy Adelaja in his contribution said the gathering was to galvanize the youth in solidarity with Hon. (Engr) Abiodun Abimbola Orekoya whom many of them believe has their interest at heart towards his emergence as the winner of the House of Assembly Somolu constituency 1.

“The assembly of the Somolu youth is essentially for the candidate of All Progressive Congress (APC) Hon. Abiodun Orekoya to tell what and what he has for the youth when elected as House of Assembly member.

The former NANS Executive, however, advocated for constant re-orientation of the youth to checkmate them from being used as political thugs by mischievous makers to cause unnecessary mayhem during and after elections.
Meanwhile, the former Executive Secretary of Somolu local government in his remarks applauded the Youth Council for putting together such a laudable initiative and promised not to only make provisions for their needs (i.e employment opportunities, assistance of small-scale entrepreneurs, Address of lopsided distribution of poverty alleviation materials to mention but few) but also make himself available at every edition of the assembly not leaving out availing of the situations as they unfold at the house if elected.

However, the programme also witnessed the inauguration of the Local Government Executives of Orekoya Youth Vanguard.

Among dignitaries that witnessed the occasion were: Hon. ‘Bowale Sosimi: Director General ICG, Hon. Fatai Komolafe, Hon. Babatunde Oladejo, Leader of the House: Hon. Yomi Oshunkoya, Hon.
