Road Construction: Aiyepe, Ogunbadejo, Akanni residents groan as contractors begin roads rehabilitation in the area

The residents of Aiyepe, Akanni, Ogunbadejo, and Oluwalogbon street in Somolu local government area of the state have not been having it easy as contractors have begun the rehabilitation of roads and drainages for easy entrance and exit of both human and vehicular movement.

The Lagos State government projects which saw a portion of some houses being pull-down in a bid to give room for more expansion of roads resulted in some tenants losing their residency in the area while some property owners groan bitterly owing to their livelihood attachment.

The report has it that most of the affected tenants have since moved out to a safe place in the outskirt of the metropolis since they could not bear the high cost of rent on the Mainland while those who could not afford to go to far distance for one reason or the other had to hang their household wares with their relatives.

Speaking with one of the affected residents who claimed anonymity said it was so sad experiencing this kind of thing at the moment the nation herself is in dilemma.

“To be frank with you, this is not the best time for me and my family. Although, we’ve been notified before now but you and I know getting a rented apartment in this part of the state is very difficult considering the harsh economy and the house agents are not helping the situation”.

“At the moment, I have to put up with my elder brother who stays around until I’m able to get a suitable apartment probably a room and parlour that’ll house myself and my family”‘. He narrated.

Similarly, our correspondent spoke with one of the landlords and former Somolu/Bariga PDP chairman, Hon. Niyi Osibemekun (Jackal) who hinted that the projects embarked on by the state government was for the benefit of the people and so, it’s important for the people themselves to appreciate and cooperate with the government when and where necessary.

“Yes, it hurt when your building is being brought down because the government wants to make roads but at the same time, when you look at other places, the kind of drainage system, the kind of parking space put in place when you want to drive around including street light and people can walk around and do some business, you now start asking yourself if it’s good or bad. There’s always a price to pay for good things”.

“Mind you, my house is also affected, my fence and coconut trees are all gone but what can one do than to accept it the way it comes and beg the state government to find a way of compensating those whose properties were affected in order for them to move on with their lives. It really hurt but since one cannot fight government especially when the government is on the right part”. He opined.
