The Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu a.k.a Dullar’ has on Monday 20th December, 2021 extolled the One Day Governor, Miss Marcus Jemima and her entourage who were hosted at the Council Secretariat for their exceptional achievements in Education.
Prior to the annual Spelling Bee Competition which was brought to life by the Former First of Lady of Lagos turned distinguished Senator Oluremi Tinubu, representing Lagos Central at the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly; the 2019 edition held in Somolu saw Jemima received unanimous commendation as she edged past several others in the competitive contest, emerging the convincing winner then as a brilliant student of Angus Memorial Senior High School.
In proportion with the honour bestowed on the One Day Governor by Mr Babajide Sanwoolu led Lagos State Government administration, Ministry of Education and State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB); Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu commended her for making Somolu proud through a tenacious demonstration of confidence, knowledge, eloquence, pride and rewarded her with overwhelming gifts.
“I must commend the initiator and pioneer of this noble platform that has continued to discover, nurture and guide our children in Lagos State to the path of greatness especially in academic excellence, our mummy and former First Lady, Distinguished Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the founder of New Era Foundation who is currently representing the Lagos Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly”, Dullar said.
“In the meantime, as a government and on behalf of the people of Somolu Local Government whom you have further placed on the global map with your enviable feat, I gift you a token sum of cash, a laptop and also intend to build a befitting library in Angus Memorial High School, Somolu”.
However, according to Miss Jemima Marcus, she poured heartfelt encomium on Senator Tinubu, Mr Governor, the First Lady of Lagos, the Ministry, Mr Chairman, her Teachers and Somolu people for believing in her and her colleagues through the educational journey which has enhanced the avowed intent of the spelling bee competition and advanced them to the peak of success.
The magnificent Miss Jemima Marcus, as the winner of the 19th Edition of the Spelling Bee Competition, which was aimed in 2001 to commensurate the educational excellence of students of Secondary and Primary Schools in Lagos State, was previously taken on a tour to Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja; Lagos House, Marina; and the Presidential Lodge, Marina, Subeb in Maryland, Districts and many others before arriving the Local Government Secretariat Banquet Hall where scores of Stakeholders, Senior Citizens and youths filled to it’s capacity to welcome her back to the turf of glory and opportunities, Somolu.
In order of preference, she performed awesome list of activities as One Day Governor and with her Cabinet members, Mr Governor, Dr Ibijoke Sanwoolu (Lagos First Lady), Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat (Deputy Governor), Hon Wahab Alawiye-King (SUBEB Chairman), Mrs. Abiola Seriki-Ayeni (Director-General, Office of Education Quality Assurance) and Other senior government officials. This privilege was put into effect by the First Lady of Lagos to give students first-hand knowledge of the history behind the strategic public assets.
During the course of the visit, the Tutor General/Permanent Secretary, Education District II, Mrs. Anike Adekanye disclosed to all, the importance of Education, advising parents and teachers to never underestimate the inner power the students possessed through their intense efforts driven by sheer determination, that they should not relent in motivating them and endeavour to always proffer maximum support in all aspects necessary to booster their chances for more prosperities.
