One of the medical experts in the country and Medical Officer of Somolu local government, Dr. Orebiyi Olatunji Sunday has admonished the residents to imbibe in the culture of going for regular medical check-up in order to checkmate unnecessary illness and avoidable death.
Speaking recently at the free medical outreach organised by National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Somolu Chapter put together to celebrate National Youth Day where he said going for routine medical check up by the youth and older generation will not only improve their health status but also keep them alive and fit.
He stressed further, “This event is one of the greatest things that has been achieved in a while because there’s no way you can see this kind of opportunity when it comes to hospital. A lots of people have what is called “hospital phobia”, some people don’t like going to hospital but when they come to a place like this, where they can relax and pour out their mind, then, we can handle their situation better”.
Dr. Orebiyi however, emphasized the need to evangelize on the issue of COVID-19 and some other things which he said was prevalent in the active age group in the society noting that even though COVID-19 affect the older generation because many of them have one medical issue or the other but insisted that the youths are more active and need to look after their health when and where necessary.
Similarly, the former Vice-President of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) and currently the Director General of Dullar Continua Initiative, Hon. Adesina Adeeso Sodiq (a.k.a Obama) commended the organiser of the free medical outreach describing it as ‘wholesome’ which he also sees as a way of celebrating the youth involvement in governance and national development.
He continued, “This kind of programme encourages a lots of youth to do some volunteering as a way of contributing to the national development. And above all, if you look at the situation in the country at the moment, it is important to go for regular check-up to avoid falling sick or having serious ailment”. He echoed.
In his closing remarks, he enjoined the residents to always avail themselves of the opportunity of initiative of such magnitude when they see one.
The one day event have the premise of Somolu local government bombarded with people from different walks of life.
