The Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu a.k.a Dullar and the Managing Director of Lagos Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, Mr Ibrahim Adejuwon Odumboni enlightened all Stakeholders on the ideal way of protecting the environment and ensure maintenance of good health.
According to the Best Local Government Chairman in Nigeria, he opined that achieving healthy environmental is a task for all and it’s suitable for long period of time, being a source of life for everyone.
“Our attitude to life depend on the quality of our natural environment, hence we must maintain a balanced natural cycle that exists between the environment and the lives of human beings, plants and animal.”
“Our actions directly or indirectly impact our ecosystem, therefore it is my duty, your duty and responsibility of us all as stakeholders, to protect and restore the aesthetic of Lagos, in attaining the model city status of our dream.”
“The state is ours, however we need to work hands in hands to encourage, discipline and put things in accordance in our community which will prompt the drive for progress. Igbega Ipinle Eko, Ajumose Gbogbo Wa No”! he concluded.
While also engaging the stakeholders, he proposed to the LAWMA officials, that the Somolu Local Government through Sanitarian Ogunbekun (HOD, Environmental Health Department) and Comrade Kushimo Issa (SA, Environment) is ready to sustain it’s lead on Monthly Sanitation, to compliment the scorecards of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu on his 2nd Pillar THEMES Agenda ‘Health and Environment’.
On the other hand, Mr Ibrahim responded to the Chairman’s request on Sanitation, and made it official, that Somolu is the first Local Government Area in Lagos, willing to bring back the exercises for a greater Lagos.
He also advised, that the Chairman, Legislators and Community Leaders in accordance with the Council, should empower the youths as Local Intra-Taskforce Agents, so as to help inculcate the habit of proper waste disposal and to mitigate the nonchalant attitude of residents for public health.
The Managing Director provided answers to questions asked by attendees, and assured matters related to prices, advocacy, hotlines, having their agents in the Local Government premises, others, as discussed while in the meetings have been considered.
Specifically on Health, Mrs Sanni-Afolabi Rashidat (Health Educator, Somolu LG) who was accompanied by Mrs Barakat Adesola (Assistant Lecturer from Health Education Department, University of Lagos), gave thorough briefing on Polio Vaccination and cleared the rumour, that Covid-19 Vaccine is been given to children who falls under the stipulated ages, instead of the Polio injection. She emphasized that on no certain conditions should they administer wrong vaccine or dozes to children in their schools or homes.
Furthermore, the Environmental Patrol Team charged the residents through the World Health Organization schemes, to take good care of their body and report any forms of diseases contacted immediately for adequate medication.
