Disaster averted as generating set caught fire in Western Avenue

What could have been a huge fire disaster was in the early hours of last Friday averted when a generating set popularly known as “I Pass my Neighbour” caught fire leaving residents scampering for safety.

The mishap which occurred at about 12:00 pm on Friday at Hogan Bassy Street, Western Avenue, Surulere, Lagos saw the Motor Dealers and shop owners around the area hurriedly evacuating their goods and vehicles from the shops and warehouse opposite the street.

According to an eyewitness account, the generating set that caused the inferno was said to be working perfectly before it gutted fire which immediately attracted passerby who saw the smoke billowing from the rooftop of the building.

Thanks to the good Samaritans and the neighbours who ensure the fire was quenched to avert losing lives and properties worth millions of Naira as a result of the fire outbreak.

The source who never wanted his name in black and white said it was a good thing that the incident did not happen at midnight when most people would have slept which he said would have been so difficult putting it off as many people wouldn’t know what to do first.

“When people are fast asleep especially in the night, it’s always difficult getting things done during an emergency like this. One wouldn’t know what step to take and before you know it, things would have gotten worse”. he stated

“Thank God no life was lost and level destruction is minimal. Whatever good or material lost can be replaced compare to human life”. he stated
