Somolu LG Chairman ‘Dullar’ intensifies effort on sports, education and security in Somolu

The Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Abdul- Hammed Salawu has perfected a plan to boost sporting activities in Somolu as more youths in the community are showing interest in becoming their best in chess, table tennis, boxing, wrestling, and football.

He made this disclosure when he visited Agunbiade Sports Hall on Friday alongside his Vice, Hon. Bowale Sosimi, the Leader of the House, Hon. Yomi Osunkoya, Ogbeni Taiwo Adesanya (SLG), Hon. Adewale Oseni (Supervisor for Agric & Social Services), Comrade Moses Adewunmi (Somolu CDC Secretary) among other legislative, executive, and management members of the council.

While assessing the state of the sports hall and its surroundings, the Somolu Council Mayor expressed his displeasure on the present state of sport development in the Somolu community, especially on table tennis as Somolu is among the best areas producing ping-pong maestros leading international tournaments. He promised to revive the sports hall with a befitting structure and state of the art sporting facilities to meet with the 21st-century standard.

In a similar development, Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu’s passion for sports is not disturbing his great strides in the educational sector as he has embarked on the rebuilding of Wesley Primary School in the Ijebutedo area of Somolu. The School, according to historians was built in 1975 to support Wright Memorial Primary School which was built 28 years(1947) before, making it 73 years now.

The Supervisor for Works and Infrastructure, Alhaji Kabir Raji said the new school building will be a complete school building with offices, toilets, ICT rooms, libraries, sickbay, etc which will be completed in five months, according to the Council Engineer, Engr. Gbolamiga Dawodu. Hon. Lateef Ashimi (Special Adviser on Education) said the new school building will be a major educational boast to Somolu residents as it will make the free education of Lagos State to be more accessible to the people at the grassroots.

Meanwhile, the Council Mayor is also not leaving any stone unturned in putting in place adequate security measures in Somolu has the ruling All Progressive Congress(APC) in Lagos State has sited their campaign office for the forthcoming Lagos East Senatorial bye-election on Shipeolu Street in Somolu.

The bye-election, according to INEC, will take place on Saturday, October 31, 2020, to fill the vacuum left at the red chamber of National Assembly by the late Senator Adebayo Osinowo who died on June 15, 2020.

The APC which held her Primary election on September 3, 2020, had Mr. Tokunbo Abiru emerged as the party flag bearer with 111,551 votes as was collated in Somolu Local Government Secretariat that was duly observed by INEC officials, journalists, and security operatives.

According to Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu who’s also the Director for Security Affairs Committee of the APC’s Tokunbo Abiru Campaign Team said Security agencies will be needed to maintain peace and orderliness in human and vehicular movement around the community as political bigwigs in Lagos east and beyond will be visiting Somolu community.

Among the Campaign team members who had visited the secretariat were the Campaign Directors, Hon. Rotimi Abiru (Finance), Mayor Dele Oshinowo (Logistics), Bldr. Olusesan Daini (Media & Publicity), Hon. Abiodun Salami (APC Lagos State Asst. PRO), Prince Ibrahim Ladega (former APC aspirant of Kosofe Constituency 2 and an ace radio broadcaster) among others
