The Ibiyemi residence in Palmgrove area of the state of Alhaji Olasumbo Fatai Bakare, popularly known as Baba-Oba and one of the Apex leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Somolu, became a hive of activity and celebration over the weekend as family members, friends, well-wishers, and political associates gathered in large numbers to mark his 85th birthday anniversary.
The event which took place at Ijebutedo Ward C was filled with heartfelt tributes, laughter, and friendship, turned into a grand occasion befitting the class of the respected community and political leader. The celebrant, Alhaji Bakare, beamed with joy and gratitude as he moved from table to table, exchanging warm pleasantries with guests who came from far and near to honour him.
From the early hours of the day, his residence was a cynosure of all eyes, beautifully decorated and filled with an atmosphere of celebration. Guests were treated to a variety of local delicacies and drinks, with DJ churning out good music to the admiration of the guests that kept the mood festive throughout.
Dressed in traditional attire that reflected both elegance and cultural pride, Alhaji Bakare expressed his deep appreciation for the outpouring of love shown to him on his special day.
He continued, “I am truly humbled and grateful to Almighty Allah for granting me life and the privilege to be surrounded by such loving people.” He said.
Among the dignitaries present were notable APC leaders from across Lagos State, local government officials, youth leaders, and religious figures who came to pay homage to the man many described as a pillar of unity and development in Somolu.
In their goodwill messages, speakers took turns to praise Alhaji Bakare’s dedication to public service, community development, and mentorship of upcoming leaders.
“He is not just a political figure; he is a father to many of us. His wisdom, generosity, and leadership have shaped the political landscape of Somolu and beyond”. Said Hon. Lateef Ashimi.
