Okanlomo of Iwaya hosts family, dignitaries at second memorial for late patriarch

The Okanlomo of Iwaya Kingdom and the CEO of Jonah Enterprises and General Merchant Ltd, High Chief Abiodun Jones on Saturday 6th September, 2025 hosted a grand memorial Fidau prayer in honour of his late father, late Pa Shamsudeen Akintayo Odunfa Jone  marking the second anniversary of the patriarch’s passing.

The event, which took place at the family residence at Ogunbadejo Street, Somolu area of Lagos, drew family members, close friends, community leaders, and dignitaries from various walks of life, all gathered to pay tribute to the enduring legacy of the late Octogenarian, a respected elder, businessman, and community figure who passed away in 2023 at the age of 83.

The day began with a special Fidau prayer session where Islamic cleric led the congregation in sermon, prayers, and reflections on the life and times of the departed.

The cleric described the late patriarch as “a man of discipline, faith, and unwavering commitment to the development of his community and the moral upbringing of his children.”

In his remarks at the reception which followed, High Chief Jones spoke emotionally about his father’s influence on his life and the lives of many others.

“My father was not only my guide but also a symbol of integrity, humility, and service. This memorial is not just a celebration of his life, but also a renewal of our commitment to uphold the values he instilled in us”. He said.

The reception, held in a beautifully decorated marquee within the Adeniyi family compound, was a vibrant blend of tradition and modern elegance. Guests were treated to a lavish spread of Nigerian cuisine, with DJ blastring the mixtures of Fuji, Apala and hi-hop music that highlighted the Yoruba heritage cherished by the family.

Among those in attendance were prominent traditional rulers, political figures, captains of industry, and long-standing associates of the family.

Family members and guests took turns to share fond memories of the late Patriach, describing him as “a beacon of wisdom, a dependable community elder, and “a father figure to many.”

As the sun set, prayers were offered once again for the peaceful repose of the deceased’s soul, and guests departed with souvenirs bearing the image and favourite quotes of the late Pa. Shamsudeen Akintayo Odunfa Jone.

The memorial, now in its second year, has become an annual gathering for reflection, unity, and cultural pride – a fitting tribute to a man whose life touched many.
