Ashimi takes oath of office, praises Dullar for his endearing legacy

…pledges to consolidate on achievements, usher in a new era for Somolu

In a colourful inauguration ceremony held at the Somolu Local Government Secretariat, the newly elected Chairman, Hon. AbdulLateef Ashimi (Lateefash) officially took the oath of office on Monday, July 29, 2025 as the new Executive Chairman of Somolu local government, pledging to build on the enduring legacy of his predecessor, Hon. Abdul-Hammed Salawu, ‘Dullar’.

The swearing-in ceremony marked the formal beginning of a new administration in Somolu. The event drew the presence of dignitaries, political leaders, party stalwarts, traditional rulers, community leaders, and a jubilant crowd of residents who came out to witness the historic moment.

In his inaugural address, Hon. Ashimi expressed heartfelt gratitude to the people of Somolu for entrusting him with the responsibility to serve. He acknowledged the solid foundation laid by the immediate past chairman, Hon. Dullar, and lauded his exceptional leadership, describing him as a transformational leader whose impact would be remembered for generations.

“Hon. Dullar is not just my predecessor; he is a mentor and an inspiration. His achievements in health, education, infrastructure, youth empowerment, and social welfare have changed the face of governance in Somolu. I am proud to be succeeding a man whose tenure is a reference point in grassroots leadership,” Ashimi stated.

The new chairman noted that Dullar’s administration set the pace with projects such as the construction of ultra-modern classrooms, rehabilitation of primary health centres, youth-focused ICT programmes, and financial empowerment schemes that directly improved the lives of thousands of residents.

Ashimi assured the people that his administration would not only sustain these gains but also initiate new developmental strides in areas such as innovation, security, economic growth, and inclusive governance.

“We will consolidate on the successes of the past while introducing fresh ideas that will further elevate Somolu. My government will remain open, accessible, and responsive to the needs of all constituents,” he affirmed.

Earlier, in his farewell remarks, outgoing Chairman Hon. AbdulHamed Salawu ‘Dullar’ expressed appreciation to the people of Somolu for their support throughout his two-term tenure. He urged residents to extend the same loyalty and cooperation to his successor.
