The councillor representing Ward B and the Chief Whip of Somolu 9th Legislative Arm, Hon. AbdulLateef Ashimi recently held a stakeholders’ meeting where he gave a detailed account of his stewardship since he assumed office.
According to ever jovial and ‘Gbagbe e Boomer’ revealed that the stakeholders’ meeting became necessary to give feedback to his constituents who gave him their ‘social will’ and mandate to represent them as a public office holder in the community.
He continued, “As a grassroots representative, it became necessary for me to come back with feedback about the working of government, the policies and what the constituents stand to gain at every point in time”.
“Although, we’re only saddled with the responsibility of observing oversight function and as well liaise between government and the people but sometimes, we also need to find a way of giving back to our people through cash and kind to alleviate their suffering which I have just exhibited in my own little way”.

“And that’s the main reason why I decided to bring them together, talk about community projects, their needs and find a possible way of finding a lasting solution especially the economic hardship encountered during this fuel subsidy removal that had plagued the nation in the recent time”.
“I also wish to give kudos to the council chairman for ensuring the people of Somolu community get what they deserve in terms of robust infrastructural development, welfarism (Monthly welfare package for the elderly Ounje Arugbo), education, health and all other areas of human endeavour. He really deserved thousands of accolades. Expect more from AbdulHamed Salawu-led administration because the game has just begun”. He claimed.
The councillor, however, hinted that the stakeholders’ meeting shouldn’t be a one-off thing but rather will be coming up periodically, while appreciating his constituents for their support and understanding, he also enjoined other public officeholders to emulate the exemplary gesture of giving back to the community as at when due.
Meanwhile, Hon. Ashimi in his closing remarks poured encomium on the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria; Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and AbdulHamed Salawu ‘Dullar’ for their ingenuity and exemplary leadership gesture; creating room for a practicable democratic system that allows check and balance and good governance.
