Monthly Sanitation: Somolu LG Chairman, Ashimi, drives street-to-street clean-up, refuse evacuation

…charges residents, CDC/CDAs to embrace cleanliness culture

Marking the July edition of the Monthly Sanitation, the Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Lateef Ashimi, intensified street-to-street clean-up activities, ensuring compliance from dwellers within the community.

With frequent stop-bys along the way, Mayor Ashimi encouraged residents and CDA members to imbibe a cleanliness culture, stressing the crucial importance of a healthy environment – a productive value the Local Government has been upholding through the execution and supervision of monthly desilting works via Super Yomi Osunkoya, the Sanitarian Ogunbekun-led Environmental Department, Comrade Olaniyi Kushimo, and other drainage teams.

“We quite understand the challenges at hand; however, we can’t stand still and allow everywhere to be messy for easy flooding. Let’s arrange our waste orderly rather than scattering it onto major roads. Indeed, plans are underway to resolve the large-scale excavation issues,” he stated.

Recall that the Executive body and the Hon. Tunde James Oyeyiola-led 10th Legislative Arm engaged the leadership of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and Private Sector Participation (PSP) weeks ago, stressing the importance of prompt clearing of refuse and public compliance for a safer community ahead of the Lagos State Government’s intervention for a bigger refuse site.

Following the rigorous activities embarked upon on saturday, the Council Mayor ensured thorough refuse evacuation, assuring residents that their designated PSP handlers will come through and ensure their surroundings and homes are not defaced with generated waste.

The unified walk-through and clean-up duties were also joined by Hon. Ayodele Coker Hector (SLG), Prince Sodiq Adeeso (Chief of Staff), Supervisors/Special Advisers, Honourable Councillors, Management Staff, Political Aides, KAI, NOA, Team-LA, CDC, CityBoyMovement, NGOs, and Security Officers, among many others.
