Hon. Ashimi pampers school children with “Thank God It’s Friday” gift

The Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Lateef Ashimi, on Friday once again demonstrated his commitment to the welfare and moral upbringing of young learners by distributing “Thank God It’s Friday” gifts to school children across the community.

The initiative, which has become a familiar and cherished gesture among pupils, saw the council boss personally ensure that children received what he described as “Friday tonic”, a symbolic reward aimed at motivating them academically and instilling discipline at home.

Speaking during the distribution, Hon. Ashimi emphasised the importance of balancing education with good character, urging the children to remain focused on their studies while also supporting their parents with household responsibilities.

He noted that the weekly gesture is not merely about giving gifts but about reinforcing positive values among the younger generation. According to him, encouraging children to read their books and contribute meaningfully at home is essential in shaping responsible future leaders.

“This is our own little way of saying well done to these children after a week of academic activities. We want them to be diligent in their studies and also obedient and helpful at home,” he said.

The children, visibly excited, expressed gratitude for the thoughtful gesture, with many describing it as a source of motivation that makes Fridays special for them. Some teachers and parents who witnessed the exercise commended the chairman for his consistency and dedication to youth development.

Observers within the community have also praised the initiative, noting that such efforts contribute significantly to building a culture of encouragement and responsibility among school-aged children.

Hon. Ashimi’s “Thank God It’s Friday” outreach continues to gain recognition as a grassroots-driven effort that blends welfare with value reorientation, further strengthening his administration’s focus on education and community engagement.
