In commemoration of this year’s World Down Syndrome Day themed “Together Against Loneliness,” members of the Yaba Lions Club paid a humanitarian visit to the Modupe Cole Memorial Home on Saturday, March 21, 2026.
The outreach, which took place in Akoka, Yaba area of Lagos, was described as both impactful and deeply moving by participants, as it provided firsthand insight into the daily realities faced by individuals living with Down syndrome and other physical challenges.
According to a statement credited to Joe Ejiofor, the experience highlighted the emotional and social struggles encountered by persons with special needs, while also drawing attention to the growing number of such individuals within society.
He noted that the visit underscored an urgent need for increased public awareness, the implementation of inclusive policies, and the establishment of sustained support systems to improve the quality of life for people living with disabilities.
The Lions Club reiterated its commitment to advocacy and community service, emphasising the importance of collective action in tackling loneliness and social exclusion among vulnerable groups.
