Ashimi, Dullar, Omotanwa Salau felicitate Alara of Ilara Kingdom on appointment as LASU Pro-Chancellor

The political landscape of Somolu was aglow with commendations and goodwill as three prominent figures in the community, the Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Lateef Ashimi; his predecessor, Hon. AbdulHamed Salawu ‘Dullar’; and the Chief Executive Officer of Equal Right Restaurant and Bar, Hon. Mrs Mariam Omotanwa Salau, jointly congratulated the Alara of Ilara Kingdom on his recent appointment as Pro-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU).

The monarch, His Royal Majesty, Oba Olukayode Olufolarin Ogunsanwo, was recently appointed as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council of Lagos State University, a development widely applauded across Lagos State and beyond.

In separate congratulatory messages made available to Somolu newspaper, Hon. Ashimi described the appointment as “well-deserved and a testament to Kabiyesi’s wealth of experience, integrity, and unwavering commitment to education and community development.”

According to the council chairman, the choice of the revered monarch to serve as Pro-Chancellor of Lagos State University reflects the confidence reposed in his leadership capacity and visionary outlook.

He noted that Alara’s vast administrative acumen and exposure would further strengthen the institution’s governance framework and academic excellence.

Hon. AbdulHamed Salawu ‘Dullar’, the immediate past chairman of Somolu Local Government, also extended his heartfelt congratulations, describing the appointment as a proud moment for traditional institutions in Lagos State.

He remarked that Oba Ogunsanwo’s elevation to such a strategic academic position underscores the vital role traditional rulers continue to play in shaping societal progress.

“His Royal Majesty has consistently demonstrated exemplary leadership both in traditional and public spheres. This new responsibility at LASU will undoubtedly benefit from his wisdom and royal insight,” Dullar stated.

On her part, Hon. Mrs Mariam Omotanwa Salau commended the Lagos State Government for what she termed a “thoughtful and forward-looking decision.” She expressed confidence that the Alara would bring dignity, stability, and renewed vigour to the university’s governing council.

She further noted that the appointment serves as an inspiration to younger generations, especially within Somolu and across Lagos State, reinforcing the value of dedication, service, and excellence.

The trio collectively prayed for divine wisdom, strength, and good health for the monarch as he assumes the new role, expressing optimism that his tenure would usher in further growth, innovation, and institutional stability at Lagos State University.
