The chairman, in his remarks while speaking with Somolu news concerning recent fire incidents that occurred simultaneously, said this measure became necessary to avoid loss of valuable goods and properties that have become common in the community.
He continued, “To be honest with you, there’s a need for public enlightenment and training on safety measures as far as fire incident is concerned. We can’t fold our hands and pretend as if we can’t afford to fortify our buildings with at least one fire extinguisher per house. How much is the fire extinguisher compared to lives and properties that are at stake?” He queried.
“It’s okay to say we have Fire servicemen and stations around, but don’t forget that they often have challenges of getting to the scene on time, but having the fire extinguisher in each building will save us all the dramas”.
“Last month alone, about three fire incidents were recorded, one at Shipeolu Street, Oguntolu Street, and the other at Anifowoshe, with properties worth millions of Naira lost in the inferno. If those houses affected had fire extinguishers, all the valuable goods and properties would have been saved without any recourse. We even thank God no life was lost.” He concluded.
Meanwhile, Alhaji Tella urged the federal and other tiers of government to make a policy that will make safety materials fortification compulsory, more accessible and affordable to the citizenry, and prosecute those who default, which he said will not only reduce fire outbreaks in the community but also save lives and time.
