In a sustained effort to cushion the effects of the current economic climate and empower grassroots entrepreneurs, the Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Lateef Ashimi, has disbursed the second phase of the ₦50 Million Renewed Hope Cash Intervention.

During the programme held yesterday at the Council Secretariat, 500 carefully selected residents from the eight wards (Onipanu, Bashua West, Ijebutedo, Orile Somolu, Okesuna Alase, Bajulaiye-Folagoro, Akoka-Igbari, and Fadeyi), selected via the Human Rights Monitoring Agenda (HURMA), received cash grants. This initiative follows the successful first phase of the programme, bringing the administration’s direct social investment to new heights.

Speaking at the event, Chairman Ashimi emphasised that the “Renewed Hope Cash Intervention” is aimed at providing immediate financial relief to petty traders to boost their small-scale businesses, noting that his administration remains focused on human capital development, while he also revealed his scorecards since July 2025.

“Our goal is to ensure that the dividends of democracy reach the doorsteps of every Somolu resident. This ₦50 million intervention is a lifeline for our small business owners, and we urge them to utilise it judiciously. We aim to spread this gesture across the community; those not selected today will certainly receive support in the next phase. Likewise, we urge you to participate in the APC E-Membership Exercise to be an official member of the ruling party.” he stated.

In a surprise move to further bolster local commerce and logistics, Chairman Ashimi, accompanied by his wife, Hon. Temitope Shakirah Ashimi, also presented a brand-new operational bus to the Somolu Market Association.

The leadership of the association, represented by Mr. Kunle Okueigbo, expressed profound gratitude, noting that the vehicle would significantly enhance their mobility and help coordinate market activities across the local government area more effectively.

Community leaders including Pastor Ademola Olisa, Alhaji Bakare, Hon. Mrs. Abosede Ogunlaja, and Hon. Yomi Olubamido, alongside the Oba of Somolu (represented by Baale Bajulaiye, Chief Rahimullah Yinusa), Management Staff, Other Apex Leaders and Ward Chairmen joined the beneficiaries in lauding Chairman Ashimi’s impactful administration. The Vice Chairman, Hon. Taiwo Ojomu, concluded the programme with a vote of thanks to all attendees.

The event was also attended by Hon. Mike Oikeh, members of the 10th Legislative Arm, Pastor Femi Taiwo, Hon. Gbenga Abdullahi, Hon. Layo Benson and Hon. Mariam Salawu, as well as former councillors, supervisors, and religious, community, and party leaders, all of whom commended the Chairman’s transparency and dedication to public welfare.
