In a condolence message issued on Tuesday, Ashimi described the incident as painful and devastating, noting that the loss of young and vibrant individuals under such circumstances is a great blow not only to Anthony Joshua and his immediate team but also to the sporting community at large.
According to reports, the fatal accident occurred on Monday when the vehicle conveying Joshua, the two deceased, and another passenger was involved in a head-on collision with a stationary truck on a major highway near Lagos. Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele reportedly died at the scene of the crash, while others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Ashimi, while commiserating with Joshua, said his thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families during this difficult time. He urged them to take solace in God, praying for strength, comfort, and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
“The entire people and government of Somolu Local Government share in this moment of grief. We mourn the untimely passing of Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele and pray that Almighty God grants their souls eternal rest while giving their families the grace to endure this painful loss,” the chairman stated.
He also wished Anthony Joshua and other survivors of the accident a speedy recovery, while calling on motorists to exercise caution on Nigerian roads to prevent avoidable tragedies.
The Somolu council chairman concluded by reaffirming his support and solidarity with the global boxing icon, encouraging him to remain strong in the face of the unfortunate incident.
