Residents of Somolu Constituency have received a major boost as the lawmaker representing the area at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Abiodun Abimbola Orekoya, rolled out a large-scale empowerment programme aimed at improving livelihoods and stimulating economic growth within the community.
Speaking during the empowerment distribution ceremony, Hon. Orekoya expressed gratitude to his constituents for the trust and confidence reposed in him, noting that their support has continued to inspire his commitment to quality representation and people-oriented governance.
The lawmaker stated that his vision for Somolu is centred on prosperity, economic independence, and improved access to quality education and healthcare. He stressed that these goals have guided his legislative activities and constituency interventions since assuming office.
According to him, his empowerment initiatives are designed to promote sustainable development, create job opportunities, and strengthen small-scale businesses across the constituency. He added that his efforts at the Lagos State Assembly are complemented by effective oversight functions that have facilitated legacy projects capable of transforming Somolu.
Hon. Orekoya emphasised that his role goes beyond lawmaking, explaining that he has maintained an open-door policy to ensure constant engagement with constituents and prompt attention to their needs and concerns.
Highlighting the impact of previous interventions, the legislator disclosed that many residents have benefited from skills acquisition and entrepreneurship programmes, which have contributed significantly to improving living standards and community development.
At the event, various empowerment items were distributed to beneficiaries, including hair dryers, barbing kits, minibuses popularly known as Korope, chest freezers, industrial ovens, bags, make-up boxes, gas cylinders, and 100 cartons of soft drinks.
Additionally, cash grants of ₦50,000 each were distributed to 100 women, while ₦100,000 each was disbursed to 50 men. Artisans, such as carpenters, tailors, and fashion designers, also received financial support to expand their businesses.
The lawmaker said the empowerment scheme was aimed at boosting economic activities, enhancing productivity, and putting smiles on the faces of constituents. He urged beneficiaries to make wise use of the items and funds, assuring them that their success stories would inspire others within the community.
Hon. Orekoya also reassured residents who were yet to benefit from the programme that more interventions would be rolled out as resources permit, stressing that no segment of the constituency would be left behind.
As the festive season approaches, the lawmaker extended warm Christmas and New Year greetings to leaders and residents of Somolu, praying for peace, joy, and prosperity in the coming year.
He concluded by calling for continued unity and cooperation, urging residents to work together towards building a brighter future for the Somolu Constituency.
