From Introduction to “I Do”: Somolu CPS’s family formalise union, fixes 2026 wedding date

Families of AbdulWasiu Badaru, popularly known as Ijebu Chemist, and the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Lateef Ashimi, on Saturday, 20th December 2025, formally met with the family of his bride-to-be, Adijat Oyindamola Ogundele, in a traditional wedding introduction ceremony, marking a significant step toward the couple’s union.

The colourful and Islamically rich event, held in a warm and cordial atmosphere at the Somolu Central Mosque, Durosinmi Street, Somolu, Lagos, brought together family members, close associates, friends and well-wishers from both sides, who gathered to witness the formal exchange of pleasantries and the Islamic rites that precede marriage.

During the meeting, elders from the groom’s family formally declared their intention and sought the consent of the bride’s family for the proposed union. The bride’s family, led by Mr Basheer Ogundele, on behalf of the family, graciously accepted the proposal, expressing appreciation for the respect, humility, and sincerity demonstrated by the groom’s family.

The leader of the Islamic Scholars and the Chief Imam of Ogo-Oluwa Central Mosque, Abiodun, Somolu, Sheikh Alhaji AbdulRasheed Anofiu, in his sermon during the event, admonished the couple to look after each other, live a responsible life and be a shining example for others, noting that respecting each other’s values brings about love, peace, and harmony in a relationship.

However, following a successful meeting, both families unanimously agreed to fix the wedding ceremony for the first quarter of 2026, with specific dates to be announced in due course. The Islamic scholars offered prayers for peace, understanding and a blissful marital journey for the couple.

The ceremony was marked by words of advice from Islamic scholars and the elders, reflecting the rich Yoruba cultural heritage that underscores unity, respect and family values. Shortly after that, the guests were treated to a lavish, mouth-watering meal and drinks, making the event more exciting and memorable.

The successful introduction has been widely described by attendees as a smooth and memorable occasion, setting the tone for a joyous wedding celebration in the coming year.
