Foundation to unveil season 4 of Orekoya Alliance Tournament

Season 4 of the Orekoya Alliance Tournament, an annual sporting event powered by the Biodun Orekoya Foundation, is set to be unveiled in grand style, reaffirming the foundation’s unwavering commitment to youth empowerment and community development through sports.

The week-long sporting event is billed for Friday, 7th November, 2025, at the new Somolu Administrative Complex, Bashua-Somolu, Lagos.

The tournament, which has become one of the most celebrated grassroots football competitions in Lagos, aims to promote unity, talent discovery, and social inclusion among young people across local communities.

According to the organisers, this year’s edition promises to be bigger and better, featuring upgraded facilities, new participating teams, and exciting prize packages designed to motivate players and fans alike.

Speaking ahead of the official unveiling, the Lagos State House of Assembly member representing Somolu Constituency I, Hon. Abiodun Abimbola Orekoya, the Founder of the Biodun Orekoya Foundation, emphasised that the initiative goes beyond football. He explained that the tournament serves as a platform to identify, nurture, and expose budding football talents to greater opportunities within and beyond Nigeria.

“The Orekoya Alliance Tournament is not just about who wins or loses; it is about inspiring our youth, promoting discipline, teamwork, and giving them a sense of purpose. Over the years, several participants have gone on to play in professional leagues, which makes us proud of the impact we’re making”. Orekoya stated.

He added that Season 4 will incorporate community development programs alongside the sporting event, including mentorship sessions and scholarship announcements for outstanding youth, in line with the foundation’s vision of holistic empowerment.

The Orekoya Alliance Tournament, which began four years ago, has consistently attracted attention from scouts, sports enthusiasts, and community leaders. Its previous editions recorded impressive participation from talented youths representing various grassroots teams, and have served as a rallying point for peace and unity in the host communities.

Organizers disclosed that the official unveiling ceremony will feature the presentation of team jerseys, fixtures, as well as appearances from notable sports icons, community stakeholders, and political figures.

Residents and sports lovers are already gearing up for what is expected to be an electrifying atmosphere as the tournament kicks off in the coming weeks.

The Biodun Orekoya Foundation, known for its philanthropic initiatives across education, youth development, and community welfare, continues to set the pace in promoting social impact programs that empower young Nigerians to reach their full potential.

With the unveiling of Season 4, expectations are high that the Orekoya Alliance Tournament will once again live up to its reputation as a beacon of hope and opportunity for aspiring footballers at the grassroots level.
