…assures Free Home-Delivery Healthcare for Identified Beneficiaries
In a dedicated show of compassion, the Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Lateef Ashimi, spent his Saturday personally delivering “Renewed Hope” palliatives to homebound elderly citizens. This new, empathetic initiative ensures that the community’s most vulnerable residents, who are unable to leave their homes, are not overlooked.
Chairman Ashimi, accompanied by his team, went door-to-door distributing essential food commodities – rice, gari, and beans – along with a cash stipend, providing direct support at their doorsteps.
“Our priority is their well-being and safety,” stated Chairman Ashimi. “We couldn’t ask our older adults, especially those with various ailments, to come out to the Secretariat during our recent distribution of 2,500 welfare packages (2nd Edition). That’s why we are bringing the hope, the food, and the cash directly to their homes.”
To make this home-delivery initiative frequent and sustainable, the team took an on-the-spot inventory of all homebound aged citizens visited and those identified across the eight political wards: Onipanu, Bashua West, Ijebutedo, Orile Somolu, Okesuna Alase, Bajulaiye-Folagoro, Akoka-Igbari, and Fadeyi. “Somolu is an extensive domain, and we are determined to reach every nook and cranny to identify our advanced elders,” he affirmed.
Furthermore, with Vice Chairman, Hon. Taiwo Hassan Ojomu, the Chief of Staff, Prince Sodiq Adeeso, and other Local Government Officials present, Chairman Ashimi made a significant announcement that the current administration will soon commence free, home-delivery healthcare services for all aged residents identified during the visit. He also reiterated the need to increase the monthly healthcare funds for Somolu General Hospital from the N1 million established under Emeritus Chairman Salawu’s administration to N2 million, for the direct benefit of those who need it most.
The gesture was met with an outpouring of emotion. Beneficiaries offered endless prayers, with two elderly women tearfully claiming they had not received any government support or visit since the 1980s. “This is a kindness we haven’t seen in decades,” one stated. Even those who were found bravely working at local selling points despite their fragile condition were delighted and uplifted by the Chairman’s visit.
Throughout the exercise, Hon. Lateef Ashimi engaged various community stakeholders at their respective bases, urging them to partner with the administration in monitoring the well-being of the elderly and reiterating his undaunted commitment to the welfare of all Somolu residents.
