As Muslims across the globe mark the holy celebration of Eid-el-Kabir, prominent political leaders and stakeholders in Lagos State have extended warm felicitations to the Muslim faithful, urging them to uphold the values of peace, sacrifice, and unity exemplified by the festival.
Among those who conveyed their goodwill messages are the Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. AbdulHamed Salawu ‘Dullar’, the Somolu APC Chairmanship candidate; Hon. Abdul-Lateef Ashimi, the former APC Chairmanship aspirant and Chief Executive Officer of Anisfield Nigeria Ltd; Hon. Akeem Anifowoshe, who joined other leaders in calling for renewed dedication to nation-building and peaceful coexistence during and beyond the sacred occasion.
In his Sallah message, Hon. Lateef Ashimi emphasized the significance of Eid-el-Kabir as a time for selflessness, devotion, and compassion. He encouraged Muslims in Somolu and beyond to draw inspiration from the obedience and faith of Prophet Ibrahim (AS), who submitted to God’s command in the spirit of sacrifice.
“I felicitate with all Muslim brothers and sisters in Somolu, Lagos, and Nigeria at large on this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebration. May this festival bring us all peace, prosperity, and a renewed sense of responsibility to serve one another and our dear nation,” Ashimi stated.
Also extending his heartfelt greetings, Hon. Akeem Anifowoshe, known for his commitment to youth empowerment and community development, called on Muslims to demonstrate the essence of the season through charitable acts and love for humanity.
“Eid-el-Kabir is not just a celebration, but a spiritual reminder of the virtues of submission to Allah, perseverance, and care for the less privileged. As we mark this sacred event, let us show love to our neighbours and remain united for the progress of our communities,” Anifowoshe said.
Other notable figures who joined in the Eid greetings include the Executive Chairman of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA; Hon. Princess Samiat Bolanle Bada, the Bariga LCDA chairman; Hon. Bukonla Adedeji, not leaving out Hon. Olukolade Muhammed, the Special Adviser on ICT to the Somolu Council Chairman. The political leaders underscored the importance of tolerance, religious harmony, and collective prayers for national stability.
In statements issued by grassroots political leaders in Lagos East Senatorial District, Muslims were urged to use the occasion to strengthen their faith and contribute to the moral and social growth of the society.
“As we slaughter rams and gather with family and friends, we must remember those in need and extend our blessings to them. The spirit of Eid is incomplete without acts of kindness and shared joy,” the statements read.
The leaders also seized the opportunity to pray for Nigeria’s peace, progress, and economic revival, stressing the role of religious festivities in promoting hope and unity among the diverse peoples of the country.
Eid-el-Kabir, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the most revered Islamic holidays observed globally. It commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God, who later provided a ram as a substitute.
As Muslims in Lagos join millions around the world in celebrating this sacred occasion, community leaders continue to emphasize the need for collective effort in building a just, inclusive, and prosperous Nigeria.
